Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need to replace my bed?
If you are finding that your bed no longergives you the comfort and support it once did its possibly time to replace it, look out for such things as roll together, creaks, visibly sagging surface, wires sticking out or visible wear and tear. It may be that your bed is not that old but if it is too soft or too firm for you it may not be giving you good support and you may need to invest in a bed that better suits your needs. As we grow older our bodies change and this may require us to change our bed to better support our current needs.

What do I need to know about buying a bed?
Not all beds are the same, and just because the bed may be a brand you are familiar with doesn’t mean it’s the best for you. Beds vary hugely in both quality and price so be prepared to ask questions and take your time. Its worth it...you want to buy what’s right for you and not spend more than you need to. You need to ask what is in the bed i.e. what sort of spring system is in the bed, what makes up the comfort layers, is it Latex, Memory foam etc and you need to know how much of each layer. Be warned some manufacturers list products in their beds but use such a small amount of them that they cannot be of any benefit to you. When shopping for your new bed make sure you go out prepared to take your time and to lie on the beds, sitting on the bed isn’t enough.

What sort of bed is best for an allergy sufferer?
One of the most common allergies is to dust mites; many of the products that we use in our beds are designed to minimize dust mites by being treated to make them dust mite resistant, latex too is naturally resistant to dust mites but over time the mattress covers will harbour mites no matter what you do, so if you are an allergy sufferer then the very best thing to do is use a good quality mattress protector over your new mattress. We can sell you a protector that completely encloses your mattress giving you absolute protection.

How can I clean my mattress?
Vacuuming is the only approved way of cleaning your mattress. Water and cleaning products may react with products within your mattress so the best protection is to use a good quality mattress protector to avoid marking your new bed. At Bay Beds we can replace you pillow top on your bed if it does become marked for some reason.

What happens if I don’t like the bed after I have brought it?
This is a question you need to ask when purchasing your new bed, most retailer will not take the bed back or allow it to be swapped for another bed; at Bay Beds we give a 30 day comfort guarantee with all our beds. This means that if you find the bed isn’t right for you we can bring your bed back and adjust it for you by making it firmer or softer for you.
